The Short Term Usage of Psilocybin

The effects of psilocybin are much like the short-term effects of LSD. Once injected through the mouth short term effects of psilocybin will appear within 30 minutes once the psilocybin converts into psilocin. The high or trip will last anywhere between 1 to 3 hours depending on the level of psilocybin inside the mushroom.

Small amounts of psilocybin produce a feeling of calmness and relaxation along with slight changes to mood and senses. Different users experience different feelings or sensations. For example certain people may feel heavy while other users may feel light. During a trip it is common for a person to feel like they have had special spiritual revelation or magical experience.

Sometimes a first time user or someone who overdoses will experience a bad-trip. This means that the effects of psilocybin do not produce a desired result but instead the trip is a very scary and frightening experience. Common after-effects may include high-blood pressure, nausea, nervous tension, shivering, increased heart rate, and numbness.

During the 1600's the Aztecs performed various religious rituals which included taking trips on Psilocybe Mushrooms native to Mexico coincidentally named Psilocybe Mexicana. The Aztecs priests would first ingest the mushrooms and then offer them to their followers.

During these trips one of the effects that the Aztecs encountered were hallucinations. The Aztec priests believed that their gods were sending them messages from the future and visions of experiences that they would soon encounter. Afterwards the Aztecs would share their experiences that they had during their trip.
